Kit, our FMC, is an infamous tinkerer stolen in the night and carted off to the darkness under the mountain to serve the dark elf lord.
Finn Greystone is the thief who shares her cell. He has survived his years as the elves’ slave through wit and cunning. Together, they have to decide if they can trust each other enough to escape or if their own lives are more important than the pull they feel towards one another (even if they won’t admit it.)
Ever since he was a child, Finn has heard a dark voice whispering in his ear. He’s plagued by the demon of darkness that has helped him survive, even though it threatens to consume him. Kit, meanwhile, has built a cage in her mind to contain the thing that burns bright with fury. She’s killed before…and she’d give almost anything not to let the beast take over again.
You’ll find elements of horror and mystery alongside cozy fantasy characters like Gryvach —our resident goblin who just wants to get back to the surface for some books and a cup of tea—and Tok, the 10ft brass, steam-powered golem that loves to bring his friends trinkets and smash anything that tries to hurt his tinkerer. The last of this little found family is Braan, a mysterious dwarven ranger that tags along last-minute.

After avoiding the clutches of the khe’rar khen and escaping the Under Realms, Finn is reunited with his rag-tag group of companions; but the reunion is less than welcoming, as Zhir’a insists on joining them. Finn and Kit’s tormentor promises to use her knowledge of the khe’rar khen and her brother’s plans will help Kit in their mission to warn the human and dwarven capitols of Tchar’ielle plans; a mission Finn hopes to convince the tinkerer to abandon. Can they trust the dark elf, or does she have an agenda of her own?
The city of Nydryll is more spectacular, diverse, and beautiful than Kit had imagined and the people they meet along the way only add fuel to Kit’s drive to save the city. With the help of the King of Thieves, they must steal a gem, gain an audience with the king, and convince him of the dangers looming on his doorstep. But will their efforts save the city or bring about its doom?
In the midst of their efforts, Finn and Kit still wrestle with the powerful beings looming in their minds. They must find ways to live with the trauma from their time underground, and their feelings for one another without losing sight of themselves and their missions. This journey will take them through wilderness, dancing in the streets of the capitol, into the jaws of death, and through transformations that will change their lives forever. Follow Finn and Kit through a story of self-discovery, friendship, learning to love again, and finding the strength to live through the things that have almost taken everything from them.
